Question 1

What is the Silva Method?

Accepted Answer

The Silva Method is a meditation and mind-training program created by José Silva in 1966 in Laredo, Texas. It teaches practitioners to enter the alpha brainwave state while remaining fully conscious, using guided relaxation and visualization to reduce stress, improve focus, and reprogram limiting subconscious habits. It was America's first personal growth program, and over 12 million people in 110 countries have taken the training.

Question 2

Is the Silva Method the same as Silva Mind Control?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Silva Mind Control was the original name of the program, popularized by José Silva's 1977 bestselling book The Silva Mind Control Method. It was later renamed the Silva Method. The techniques and curriculum continue today under Silva International Inc, run by the Silva family and certified instructors worldwide.

Question 3

Does the Silva Method actually work?

Accepted Answer

The Silva Method's core practices - guided relaxation, breathing, and visualization - overlap with techniques studied in meditation and mental-rehearsal research, which are associated with reduced stress and improved focus. Over 60 years, more than 12 million students in 110 countries have completed the training, and Silva International publishes student outcomes and research references on its Research page. As with any meditation practice, results depend on consistent practice.

Question 4

What is the alpha state in the Silva Method?

Accepted Answer

The alpha state is a brainwave frequency of roughly 8–13 Hz associated with relaxed, focused awareness - the state between wakefulness and sleep. The Silva Method's central technique trains you to enter the alpha state deliberately while staying conscious. Practitioners use it for deep relaxation, mental rehearsal, visualization, and creative problem-solving.

Question 5

How long does it take to learn the Silva Method?

Accepted Answer

The core Silva Life System is typically taught in a 2-to-4-day live seminar or as a self-paced digital course. Most students learn the foundational Long Relax technique in the first session and build the complete toolkit - visualization, habit control, and problem-solving - across the full program. Daily practice of 15 minutes is recommended to maintain results.

Question 6

What is the difference between the Silva Life System and the Silva Intuition System?

Accepted Answer

The Silva Life System is the beginner course covering relaxation, stress management, sleep, and goal-setting through visualization. The Silva Intuition System is the advanced course that builds on it, focused on developing intuition, finding life purpose, and Silva's healing and case-working techniques. Students typically start with the Life System.

Question 7

Where can I take an official Silva Method class?

Accepted Answer

Official Silva Method classes are available as live in-person seminars, live online Zoom classes, and self-paced digital courses at silvamethod.com. Silva International Inc certifies instructors worldwide and lists upcoming classes by date, language, and format on its events calendar, with classes taught in English, French, Bengali, and other languages.

Question 8

How do I know I am learning the original Silva Method?

Accepted Answer

The original Silva Method is operated by Silva International Inc, headquartered in Laredo, Texas, and run by the family of José Silva. It is the only version offering the complete curriculum with live certified trainers, lifetime access, personal guidance, and an official graduation certificate. Courses on third-party platforms typically teach an abridged portion of the method.

Question 9

Who was José Silva?

Accepted Answer

José Silva (1914–1999) was a self-taught researcher from Laredo, Texas, who spent over two decades studying the mind before launching the Silva Method in 1966. He authored The Silva Mind Control Method (1977), which became an international bestseller. His work made him a pioneer of the modern personal development industry, and his family continues his program through Silva International Inc.

Question 10

Can beginners with no meditation experience learn the Silva Method?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Silva Method was designed for complete beginners. Unlike traditional meditation that can take months to learn unguided, Silva uses structured, step-by-step guided exercises - starting with the Long Relax countdown technique - so first-time students typically reach a relaxed alpha state in their first session.
